Basketball Recap: Hylton Takes a Loss

Hylton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They lost 68-48 to the Warren County Wildcats. The Bulldogs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wildcats apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

Despite the loss, Hylton saw an underclassman step up: freshman Kaleb Swanigan dropped a double-double on 18 points and 16 boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Swanigan has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Amari Butler, who posted 12 points and six steals.

Even though they lost, Hylton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Warren County was led to victory by Ethan Bare and Nolan Berry. Bare almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds, while Berry dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds. Berry is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down ten or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Adrian Craig, who had eight points and six boards.

Hylton's defeat dropped their record down to 1-10. As for Warren County, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-7.

Hylton will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Forest Park at 7:00 p.m. on January 10th. Forest Park knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past five matchups -- so hopefully Hylton likes a good challenge. As for Warren County, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 70-55 defeat against Strasburg on the 2nd.
