The Ridge Spring-Monetta Trojans fought the good fight in their overtime game against the Hunter-Kinard-Tyler Trojans on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Trojans 59-54. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Ridge Spring-Monetta in their matchups with Hunter-Kinard-Tyler: they've now lost five in a row.
Ridge Spring-Monetta lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Taylah Leaphart, who scored 23 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Leaphart has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Bri Hendley, who scored ten points along with six rebounds.
Even though they lost, Ridge Spring-Monetta smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. This was only their 14th loss (out of 22 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
It was another big night for Tilayzia Youmans, who dropped a triple-double on 28 points, 13 rebounds, and ten steals for Hunter-Kinard-Tyler. Youmans has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Aysiah Bonaparte, who scored 13 points along with seven steals.
Ridge Spring-Monetta has been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-17 record this season. As for Hunter-Kinard-Tyler, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 17-5.
Ridge Spring-Monetta does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Hunter-Kinard-Tyler, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Christ Church Episcopal at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Hunter-Kinard-Tyler focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 28 on Thursday.
