After a string of four wins, Mira Mesa's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mater Dei Catholic Crusaders. The Marauders were not able to make up for their loss to the Crusaders from their previous meeting back in February of 2024.
The defeat didn't mean the game wasn't competitive: Mater Dei Catholic scored at least 17 points in every set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-17, 25-19, 18-25, 25-21.
Dylan Henry paced Mira Mesa's offense, picking up 16 kills. Henry got some help from Nathan Montemayor and his 29 assists. Henry was also solid from the service line: he led the team with six aces.
Mater Dei Catholic can attribute much of their success to Ethan Bundang, who had 15 digs and three aces. Bundang has been hot, having posted 14 or more digs the last five times he's played.
Mira Mesa now has a losing record of 6-7. As for Mater Dei Catholic, they moved to 4-7 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak.
Coming up, Mira Mesa will head out on the road to challenge Canyon Crest Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Canyon Crest Academy will roll in looking for their 18th straight win, something Mira Mesa surely won't give up without a fight. As for Mater Dei Catholic, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Victory Christian Academy at 4:00 p.m.
