The Carroll Chargers are taking a road trip to square off against the Columbia City Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Carroll 3, Columbia City 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Carroll will bounce into Tuesday's contest after beating South Bend Saint Joseph, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Chargers walked away with a 9-4 victory over the Huskies on Saturday.
Carroll let Izzy Rapson and Lily Schultz run wild. Rapson went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI, while Schultz went 2-for-3 with one home run and one double. That's the most hits Schultz has posted over her last 14 matchups. Alexis Pee also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Carroll lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Bend Saint Joseph didn't launched any home runs.
Meanwhile, Columbia City sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 win over Norwell on Monday.
Emma Hiss made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 16 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one triple.
Hiss wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Lacie Friend, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Carroll is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-5-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.9 runs over those games. As for Columbia City, their record now sits at 15-4.
Both Carroll and Columbia City just can't seem to miss. The Chargers have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.8 hits per game. However, it's not like Columbia City struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.6 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Carroll couldn't quite finish off Columbia City in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 and fell 3-1. Can the Chargers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
