Baseball Recap: Bluejacket Has No Trouble Against Welch

Bluejacket made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Welch, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Bluejacket Chieftains blew past the Welch Wildcats 14-6 on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Chieftains, who have now won six matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Colton Cochran was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits (and not a single walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Bryson Shaffer was incredible, scoring a run and stealing Four bases. while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Shaffer is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Josh Rowe, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Bluejacket always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .632. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Welch only posted an OBP of .394.

Bluejacket pushed their record up to 6-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 7.7 runs. As for Welch, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-5.

Coming up, Bluejacket will be playing at home against Quapaw at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Bluejacket's pitching crew has only allowed 2.1 runs per game this season, so Quapaw's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Welch, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Welch Wildcats face off against South Coffeyville Lions at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
