Camas hasn't had much luck against Skyview recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Papermakers will face off against the Storm at 4:30 p.m. Camas is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.
Camas fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Battle Ground on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 8-7. The Papermakers' defeat continues a trend for the team, making it four in a row.
Ellie Wittler was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-5 with two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayda Peterson, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI.
Meanwhile, Skyview waltzed into their game on Tuesday with 11 straight wins... but they left with 12. Everything went their way against the Titans as they made off with an 11-1 victory. That's two games straight that the Storm have won by exactly ten runs.
Maddie Milhorn made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over 4.2 innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kayla Lester, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. Taylor Lies was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Skyview always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .528 or higher in five consecutive contests.
Skyview's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games. As for Camas, their loss dropped their record down to 7-11.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Camas hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .336. However, it's not like Skyview struggles in that department as they've averaged .454. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Camas suffered a grim 14-0 defeat to Skyview in their previous matchup on Wednesday. Can the Papermakers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
