Baseball Recap: Cibola Falls Short Against Ranked Farmington

Cibola faced Farmington in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Cougars fell just short of the Scorpions by a score of 11-10. The Cougars were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Scorpions earlier this season, when they won 18-14.

Jacob Escobedo was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-6 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. He has become a key player for Cibola: the team is 7-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 8-9 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Hutchinson, who got on base in four of his six plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.

Cibola has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 15-10 record this season. As for Farmington, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-8 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Cibola is set to take on their familiar foe Volcano Vista at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Farmington will square off against rival Piedra Vista at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
