The Dougherty Valley Wildcats will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against the Monte Vista Mustangs on February 10th. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Dougherty Valley had no problem doing just that on Thursday. Their defense stepped up to hand the Spartans a 3-0 shutout. Considering Dougherty Valley has won seven games by more than two goals this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
They were led to victory by the tag-team duo of
Matas Drevinskas and
Lucas Lee, who scored all three of Dougherty Valley's goals. The pair have combined for a total of nine so far this season.
Meanwhile, Monte Vista had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 1.7 goals), and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. They had just enough and edged San Ramon Valley out 1-0. Give Monte Vista's defense some credit: that's the team's fourth straight shutout.
Dougherty Valley has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-3-4 record this season. As for Monte Vista, their win bumped their record up to 13-2-3.
