Players to watch: Sterling Brown (6-4, Sr., G/F, SMU verbal commit),
Paris Lee (5-11, Sr., G),
Branden Jenkins (6-3, Sr., G),
Jevon Carter (6-0, Jr., G)
Strengths: The Pirates emerged as an absolute buzzsaw under Boyce a year ago, winning 32 games in a row before falling to Simeon in the state final. Proviso East polished off opponents by an average margin of 23 points per game, and returning guards Brown and Lee were a major factor in that dominance. Brown, the younger brother of Phoenix Suns guard Shannon Brown, is in line to have a huge senior campaign. Boyce, who helped PE win a state title as a player in 1991, has experience coaching in the NBDL and would love to spoil
Jabari Parker's victory parade at
Simeon (Chicago) by taking the Pirates one step farther this season.
Question marks: Proviso East lost a major playmaker in Saint Louis signee Keith Carter. In order to overcome loaded teams at Simeon and
Whitney Young (Chicago), Brown and Lee will have to fill that void – and then some.
