It's playoff time, and Durham had no trouble coming through when it counted. Everything went their way against the Lowell Cardinals on Tuesday as they made off with a 12-2 win. Considering the Trojans have won 13 games by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Sadie Sjolund was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Ashley Spence was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Trinity Kolu was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
The victory (which was Durham's fourth in a row) raised their record to 20-10. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Lowell, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 15-14 record.
