Cedar Valley is 0-3 against the Wasps since November of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Cedar Valley Aviators will head out on the road to square off against the Wasatch Wasps at 5:15 p.m. Hopefully Cedar Valley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Tuesday.
Cedar Valley has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a 39-34 hit to the loss column at the hands of Springville. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Cedar Valley has scored all season.
Despite the defeat, Cedar Valley had strong showings from Hadley Whiting, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and two steals, and Ellie Larson, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Whiting is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Olivia Kaaihue, who scored ten points.
Meanwhile, Wasatch waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with five straight wins but they left with six. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 62-59 win over Timpview. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win Wasatch has posted since November 21, 2023.
Cedar Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 12-7. As for Wasatch, they pushed their record up to 16-3 with that win, which was their third straight at home.
Cedar Valley lost to the Wasps on the road by a decisive 51-36 margin in their previous meeting back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Wasatch's Ashley Garner, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 20 rebounds. Now that Cedar Valley knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
