It was a good run, but the West Craven Eagles unfortunately witnessed the end of their 11-game winning streak on Friday. They were the victim of a rough 73-53 defeat at the hands of North Pitt. West Craven has not had much luck with North Pitt recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.
Several Eagles players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Torvonyah Heggie, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds. Heggie continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Shalawn Yates was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with seven rebounds and five steals.
North Pitt got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Zamareya Jones out in front who scored 25 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Jones has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Speller, who scored 14 points along with eight assists and five steals.
West Craven's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-1. As for North Pitt, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 12-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Craven will take on SouthWest Edgecombe at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. SouthWest Edgecombe is on a four-game streak of home wins, West Craven a six-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. As for North Pitt, they will head out on the road to square off against Farmville Central at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Farmville Central will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 208th, while North Pitt is ranked 12th).
