Rantoul is 0-6 against Mattoon since April of 2015 but things could change on Tuesday. The Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Greenwave at 4:30 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Rantoul took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Paxton-Buckley-Loda, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Eagles skirted past the Panthers 2-1.

Holden Cargo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Rantoul is 4-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-8 otherwise.
At the plate, Rantoul saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Yovanny Solorzano, who went 1-for-2 with one run.
Mattoon came out on top against Taylorville on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run third inning. The Greenwave were the clear victors by a 9-2 margin over the Tornadoes. That's two games straight that the Greenwave have won by exactly seven runs.
Jackson Horst tossed a big game, pitching six innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits.
On the hitting side, Dallas Morton was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Zander Piper, who went 1-for-2 with two runs.
Rantoul has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Mattoon, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-11.
Rantoul couldn't quite get it done against Mattoon in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 as they fell 5-0. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
