Thurston scored a stunning upset when it knocked off Crater, 33-10. At the time, the Comets were ranked 23rd in the state, while the Colts were 32nd.
Sheldon extended the longest winning streak in 6A Southwest this week by beating Roseburg, 49-14. The win marks seventh in a row for the the Irish.
Thurston's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Corey Weick threw for 257 and one touchdown and Jack Miller had 95 yards receiving. On the ground Roy Jackson chipped in 52 yards. Colton Fish helped Thurston's passing attack out by catching four balls for 62 yards.
Thurston's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Colts feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Weick has thrown for 1489 yards and eight touchdowns this season, while Miller has 36 catches for 475 yards. Aaron Downes leads the league in rushing with 384 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Justin Starck's team takes on Sheldon. As it stands, the Colts are in third, while Lane Johnson's team is in first.
There should be lots of points scored when Thurston and the Irish face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Colts comes in having scored 163 this season, while Sheldon has scored 279. Thurston scored 33 points last week as it topped Crater.
John Beck's team suffered a letdown when it was bounced from the state Top 25 this week after falling to the Colts. The Comets had been ranked 23rd, but fell to 37.
