West Wendover has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. The West Wendover Wolverines and the Incline Highlanders will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 25th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully West Wendover focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Saturday.
West Wendover put the finishing touches on their seventh blowout victory of the season. They took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 45-9 win over Oasis Academy. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win West Wendover has posted since December 16, 2023.
It was another big night for Lesly Tovar, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. She hasn't dropped below two steals for 11 straight games. Another player making a difference was Samara Graham, who scored nine points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Incline, who are still winless after their 11th game. They were dealt a 57-7 defeat at the hands of Pershing County on Saturday. While losing is never fun, Incline can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked 104th, while Pershing County is ranked 19th).
West Wendover's victory bumped their record up to 10-6. As for Incline, they dropped their record down to 0-11 with that loss, which was their 12th straight on the road.
West Wendover took their victory against Incline in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 by a conclusive 42-19. The rematch might be a little tougher for West Wendover since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
