The Fremont Silverwolves will be playing in front of their home fans against the Layton Lancers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
A well-balanced attack led Fremont over Syracuse in every quarter on their way to victory on Tuesday. Fremont strolled past Syracuse with points to spare, taking the game 62-44. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Fremont.
Fremont's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ryan Furgeson led the charge by scoring 12 points along with five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Easton Duft, who scored ten points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Layton faced Weber in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Layton walked away with an 82-70 victory over Weber on Tuesday. The victory was familiar territory for Layton who now have five in a row.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Layton to victory, but perhaps none more so than David Katoa, who scored 32 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Katoa has scored all season. Mekhi Martin was another key contributor, scoring 24 points.
Fremont's win bumped their record up to 10-7. As for Layton, they pushed their record up to 16-1 with that victory, which was their tenth straight at home.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Fremont hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 60.8 points per game. However, it's not like Layton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 74.2 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Fremont couldn't quite finish off Layton in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 and fell 62-60. Can Fremont avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
