Burleson took a three-set loss the last time they faced off against Centennial, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Elks came out on top in a nail-biter against the Spartans on Friday, sneaking past 3-2. Winning may never get old, but the Elks sure are getting used to it with their eighth in a row.
Burleson was staring down a 2-1 deficit headed into the fourth set, but they rallied to take the next two for the win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 24-26, 25-21, 21-25, 25-23, 19-17.
Daelyn Cross paced Burleson's offense, picking up 17 kills. Cross got some help from Brooklyn Lynes and her 24 assists. Camryn Bruder controlled things from the service line, finishing with nine aces.
Despite the loss, Centennial still got an impressive performance from Ty'Jahnique Minter, who had 18 digs and six assists. Minter is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 15 or more in each of the last three games she's played.
Burleson's victory bumped their record up to 13-14. As for Centennial, their defeat ended a three-match streak of away wins and brought them to 24-11.
