Elko is 2-8 against Churchill County since April of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Indians will be playing at home against the Greenwave at 2:00 p.m. Elko is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.3 runs per game this season.
Elko is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Lowry, who was ranked 11th at the time (Elko was ranked 25th). The Indians lost 10-0 to the Buckaroos on Wednesday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Meanwhile, Churchill County waltzed into their game on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They had just enough and edged out the Dust Devils 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Greenwave have posted since April 20, 2024.
Vernita Fillmore spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on eight hits and racked up 11 Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Dana Buckmaster, who scored a run while going 1-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Kalaya Downs, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Churchill County pushed their record up to 11-7 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Elko, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-8.
Friday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Elko hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .336. However, it's not like Churchill County struggles in that department as they've averaged .412. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
