On Friday, the Albuquerque Academy Chargers faced the Sandia Matadors in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Albuquerque Academy was outmatched by Sandia at home and fell 91-61. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Sandia's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gad Harris led the charge by scoring 15 points along with eight assists and three steals. That's the first time this season that Harris posted eight or more assists. Another player making a difference was Isaiah Brown, who scored 18 points along with five assists and four steals.
Albuquerque Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 7-2. As for Sandia, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-4.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Albuquerque Academy has the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome St. Pius X at 7:00 p.m. on January 9th. Sandia will take on Rio Rancho at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
