Blackfoot is 8-2 against Idaho Falls since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Broncos will take on the Tigers at 4:00 p.m. Blackfoot will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
On Friday, Blackfoot beat Shelley 10-5. That's two games straight that the Broncos have won by exactly five runs.
Easton Cannon was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits. Cannon was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his six plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jason Williams, who went 1-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Weston Layton, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Blackfoot kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Idaho Falls hadn't done well against Hillcrest recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Tigers put the hurt on the Knights with a sharp 14-3 win.
Makai Ferguson was incredible, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. He has become a key player for Idaho Falls: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-15 otherwise. Cooper Cammack also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Blackfoot's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-6. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Idaho Falls, their victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-15.
Idaho Falls' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Blackfoot hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .362. It's a different story for Idaho Falls, though, as they've only averaged .225. Will they be able to contain Blackfoot's hitters?
Blackfoot took their win against Idaho Falls in their previous matchup on Tuesday by a conclusive 13-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Broncos since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
