Bushland has gone 9-1 against Dalhart recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Falcons will take on the Wolves at 4:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Bushland sitting on three straight wins and Dalhart on four.
Bushland proved they can win big on Friday (they won by 32) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 victory over Childress. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Falcons have posted against the Bobcats since February 20, 2017.
Wade McConnell made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Bushland got a big performance out of Lincoln Krause, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Colton Reynolds, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Dalhart narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Childress 14-13. That's two games straight that the Wolves have won by just one run.
Like Bushland, Dalhart also got a great game from a two-way player: Hunter Trusler. He struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and seven unearned) runs off six hits. Trusler was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and five RBI. Dalhart is undefeated when Trusler posts one or more home runs, but 6-8 otherwise.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Talon Garcia, who scored four runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Dalhart's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 6-8 when he doesn't). Braxton Akin also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Dalhart always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .579. The last time their OBP was this high was was before the start of last season.
Dalhart pushed their record up to 9-8 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Bushland, their record is now 14-10.
