Owen County hasn't had much luck against Trimble County recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Rebels will challenge the Raiders at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
While Owen County's win against Grant County wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Rebels narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Braves 8-7.
Hallie Tirey made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Tirey was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Tirey wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Andie Baumann, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and three runs. That's the most stolen bases Baumann has posted since back in March. Peyton Perkins also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Trimble County entered their tilt with Boone County on Monday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Rebels 13-2.
Like Owen County, Trimble County also got a great game from a two-way player: Alyssa Ritchie. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. Ritchie has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.
In other batting news, Ava Newton was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Tynlee Walls, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Trimble County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .576. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .576 or higher in three consecutive games.
Trimble County's record now sits at 11-14. As for Owen County, they now have a winning record of 12-11.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Owen County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .364. However, it's not like Trimble County struggles in that department as they've averaged .358. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
