The Fernandina Beach Pirates had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They secured a 55-49 W over Yulee. With that victory, Fernandina Beach brought their scoring average up to 50.2 points per game.
Miles Townsend was the offensive standout of the matchup as he scored 18 points along with three steals. He continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last five games he's played. Chase Landtroop was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Yulee lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Ace Walker, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Walker has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jordan Austin, who scored 18 points.
Even though they lost, Yulee smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fernandina Beach only pulled down two offensive rebounds.
Fernandina Beach's victory bumped their record up to 13-7. As for Yulee, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost eight of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-11 record this season.
Fernandina Beach will head out on the road to challenge Hilliard at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hilliard knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past eight matches -- so hopefully Fernandina Beach likes a good challenge. As for Yulee, they will be playing at home against Episcopal School of Jacksonville at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
