BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - the Mustangs had a big 18-point second quarter on Saturday, sealing a 32-7 victory over
Centennial (Bakersfield, Calif.).
Stockdale scored on three rushing touchdowns in the quarter, including one by
Xavier Chisholm.
After taking the lead on a defensive touchdown in the first quarter, SHS was up 25-0 at the half.
The Mustangs grew their lead to 32 points entering the fourth quarter. Stockdale scored once in the quarter on an
Anthony Wood touchdown run.
The result came as a big surprise as the Golden Hawks came in ranked No. 142 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for California, while SHS was ranked No. 198.
Centennial's only touchdown came on a run in the fourth quarter.
Coming into the game the Mustangs had allowed 29.2 points per game this year. A defensively strong Stockdale kept Centennial well below the 21.8 points it had been averaging per game.
The defeat comes as a step back for Centennial, which notched a 28-7 victory over Frontier in its previous outing. The loss broke Centennial's three-game winning streak. With the win SHS extended its winning streak to three games.
In a Southwest Yosemite game next week Stockdale (4-3) takes on Liberty, and Centennial (4-3) will go up against Independence also in a Southwest Yosemite game.
