The Triton Central Tigers and the Roncalli Royals will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 17th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Triton Central will be strutting in after a victory while Roncalli will be coming in after a defeat.
Last Saturday, Triton Central beat Morristown 43-36. That's two games straight that Triton Central has won by exactly seven points.
Triton Central's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Eli Sego, who scored 12 points along with six steals, and Silas Blair, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds. Sego hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Taggart Goul, who scored four points.
Roncalli suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Wednesday. They suffered a rough 61-35 loss at the hands of Warren Central. While losing is never fun, Roncalli can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 112th, while Warren Central is ranked 13th).
Roncalli's loss came about despite a quality game from Noah Schmaltz, who scored 11 points. Schmaltz continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Joe Taylor, who scored five points.
The victory makes it two in a row for Triton Central and bumps their season record up to 9-3. As for Roncalli, their loss dropped their record down to 6-4.
Triton Central lost to Roncalli on the road by a decisive 71-54 margin when the teams last played back in December of 2022. Can Triton Central avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
