Even though the Parker Thundering Herd have not done well against the Anniston Bulldogs recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Parker managed a 45-41 win over Anniston. The win was all the more spectacular given Parker's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 60th, while Anniston is ranked 20th).
Parker found their leader in underclassman Janiya Mines, who scored 25 points along with four steals. Those four steals set a new season-high mark for her. Taniya Smith was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with five steals.
Parker's win was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-4. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.8 points per game. As for Anniston, their loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Parker will finish 2023 at home by hosting Carver Birmingham at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Anniston, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Bessemer City at 1:00 p.m. on December 27th.
