Football Recap: Denison Starts Season with Win Against Sherman

Denison had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They walked away with a 28-16 victory over the Sherman Bearcats on Friday. For the Yellow Jackets, this counts as revenge for the 31-13 win the Bearcats walked away with the last time they faced one another back in August of 2024.

Denison didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Alyc Moore and Shandan Love. Denison got some further help from Chandler Lopez: he picked up 1.5 sacks, forced one fumble, and made six total tackles (2.5 for loss).

Denison and Sherman could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. The Yellow Jackets (ranked 344th) will meet Decatur (ranked 157th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Sherman will challenge Rock Hill at 7:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (556 vs. 148).
