Plant is a perfect 6-0 against Sickles since October of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Panthers will host the Gryphons at 7:30 p.m.
On Friday, Plant came up short against Berkeley Prep and fell 19-7.
Even if they lost, Plant's defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. Zyrohn Canady was especially locked on to Berkeley Prep's QB and sacked him twice. Mark Del Cukut was another major factor on D, making 22 total tackles (4.0 for loss).
Special teams was responsible for all of the team's points. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Deron Manuel, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous seven matchup, Sickles brought some dynamite into their most recent contest. They strolled past Leto with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 35-21. The win continues a trend for the Gryphons in their matchups with the Falcons: they've now won nine in a row.
Sickles' win came from a few key players Plant will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Brayden Himelright, who threw for 282 yards and four TDs while completing 76.9% of his passes. Those four passing touchdowns gave him a new career-high. Luca Milinkovich was another key player, picking up 81 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Sickles didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Leto to a completion percentage of just 50%. The team can thank Rhys Williams for the heroic effort on defense: he. Given Himelright's standout performance, it's clear Leto's secondary just wasn't on the same level.
Sickles didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jaylin Moore and Williams. Williams also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with 13. Sickles received some extra help from Moore, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
Sickles' first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-7. As for Plant, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Plant against Sickles in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the squad secured an 81-0 win. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Gryphons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
