Softball Recap: Notre Dame Makes It 24 in a Row at Home

It's playoff time, and Notre Dame had no trouble coming through when it counted. They were the clear victors by a 16-5 margin over the Lafayette Christian Academy Knights on Monday. The Pioneers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 27 contests by six runs or more this season.

Bella Smith looked comfortable as she tossed four innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Lillian Guidry and Malayna Daigle did most of the damage at the plate: Guidry went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI, while Daigle went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That's the most runs Guidry has posted since back in March. Isabella Wimberley was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and one RBI.

Notre Dame kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive matches.

Notre Dame pushed their record up to 31-2 with the victory, which was their 24th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Lafayette Christian Academy, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-11.

As of now, neither Notre Dame nor the Knights have any future games scheduled.
