Basketball Recap: Kael Muir's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Mountain Crest over Preston

Mountain Crest lost against Preston back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Mountain Crest Mustangs took a 58-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Preston Indians. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 90th in Utah, while the Indians are ranked 12th in Idaho).

Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kael Muir, who posted ten points. The dominant performance gave Muir a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Noah Cardon, who had six points and four steals.

Even though they lost, Mountain Crest smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Mountain Crest has traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season. As for Preston, they pushed their record up to 9-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mountain Crest will head out to challenge Star Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Mountain Crest is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.1 points per game this season. As for Preston, they will head out on the road to take on West Field at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Preston's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five contests.
