After flying high against the Wade Hampton Generals on Tuesday, the Mauldin Mavericks came back down to earth. Mauldin took a hard 70-55 fall against Riverside on Friday. While losing is never fun, Mauldin can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 74th, while Riverside is ranked 12th).
Despite the loss, Mauldin saw an underclassman step up: Nathan Wilbourne scored 14 points along with seven rebounds. Wilbourne set a new season high mark in rebounds with seven. Braden Hershberger was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Mauldin bumped their record down to 3-4 with that loss, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. That rough patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.3 points per game. As for Riverside, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 7-0.
Mauldin will head out on the road to face off against Wade Hampton at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Wade Hampton is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak. Riverside won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Dorman at 3:30 p.m. on December 9th. Dorman will be coming into the match with an undefeated record on the line.
