A big part of Southside's win came down to the chemistry between Kole Moody and his top target Cedrick Simmons. Moody threw for 411 yards and three touchdowns while completing 74.2% of his passes while Simmons picked up 199 receiving yards and one score. Simmons' receiving production has been exceptional for a while as that marked his 12th straight game with at least 101 receiving yards dating back to last season.
Southside was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 234 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
Southside didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Camarion Allen, Simmons, and Derrick Surles picked up one apiece. Simmons got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Hale County's game last Friday was all tied up 22-22 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They took a 42-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of Thorsby. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on September 12th (34), the Wildcats still had to take the loss.
Despite the loss, Hale County saw an underclassman step up: freshman Marcus Bryant, Jr. rushed for 100 yards and a pair of TDs on only 12 carries, and also threw for 261 yards and three touchdowns.
Southside's record is now 5-0. As for Hale County, their defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 3-2.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's game: Southside has been excellent in the air this season, having averaged 318.8 passing yards per game. It's a different story for Hale County, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 113.2 passing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant passing game?
Everything came up roses for Southside against Hale County in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 56-6 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
