The Payson Lions will challenge the Delta Rabbits at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Thursday just wasn't the day for Payson's offense. They came up short against Morgan on Thursday, falling 6-0. The loss was the Lions' first of the season.
Meanwhile, Delta strolled into their game on Saturday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They blew past Millard 16-1. While the Rabbits didn't have the best season last year (they finished 11-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Dreyden Wood was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Wood was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and three RBI. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cooper Smith, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Ashton Stefanoff was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Delta was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in five consecutive games.
Having lost for the first time this season, Payson fell to 3-1. As for Delta, their victory bumped their record up to 8-0.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Payson hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .318. However, it's not like Delta struggles in that department as they've averaged .369. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
