The Baldwin Highlanders will face off against the Thomas Jefferson Jaguars at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Baldwin is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.6 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Baldwin got the win against Connellsville by a conclusive 20-5. The Highlanders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by seven runs or more this season.
Baldwin got a massive performance out of Avery Herrington, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and one double. That's the most hits Herrington has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabriella Jaquay, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run.
Baldwin always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .706. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Connellsville only posted an OBP of .400.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 16 runs the game before, Thomas Jefferson was a bit more limited in their contest on Monday. They fell just short of Bethel Park by a score of 2-1.
Thomas Jefferson saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Olivia Stock, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. Sophie Janosko was another, going 2-for-4 with one triple.
Baldwin has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Thomas Jefferson, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 4-4.
Thomas Jefferson's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Baldwin has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .473. It's a different story for Thomas Jefferson, though, as they've only averaged .345. Will they be able to contain Baldwin's hitters?
Baldwin was able to grind out a solid win over Thomas Jefferson in their previous matchup two weeks ago, winning 3-0. Will the Highlanders repeat their success, or do the Jaguars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
