The Basic Wolves will square off against the Boulder City Eagles at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Basic is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
Basic is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Legacy, who was ranked 12th at the time (Basic was ranked third). The Wolves put the hurt on the Longhorns with a sharp 8-1 win on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Wolves in their matchups with the Longhorns: they've now won four in a row.
Noah Sebastian tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over five innings pitched.
At the plate, Troy Southisene was incredible, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Matthew Kelley, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Boulder City ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Coronado, sneaking past 10-8. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Eagles considering their one-run performance the contest before.
Boulder City let Tate Crine and Gavin Robinson run wild. Crine went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one double, while Robinson went a perfect 4-for-4 with two doubles, one triple, and one run. Robinson is becoming a predictor of Boulder City's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is undefeated (and 9-10 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Duke, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Boulder City kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Basic's win bumped their record up to 15-8. As for Boulder City, their victory bumped their record up to 12-10.
Saturday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Basic hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .315. However, it's not like Boulder City struggles in that department as they've averaged .333. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
