The West Union Dragons's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their seventh straight defeat. They were dealt a 58-30 defeat at the hands of Peebles. While losing is never fun, West Union can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 653rd, while the Indians are ranked 102nd).
Ashlah Staten and Olivia Lewis certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Staten scored 12 points along with six rebounds and two steals, while Lewis scored ten points along with six rebounds. Staten is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played.
Payton Johnson continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Peebles, almost dropping a triple-double on 28 points, 13 rebounds, and nine steals. Johnson is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Caydence Carroll, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds.
West Union has been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season. As for Peebles, the win (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 15-2.
West Union will head out on the road to challenge the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Bethel-Tate is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak. As for Peebles, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against the Tigers at 1:30 p.m.
