The Marlboro County Bulldogs were the 75-32 winner over the Cheraw Braves when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Marlboro County fell just short of Cheraw by a score of 37-34.
Marlboro County's lost on Friday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being TaNiyah Hairston, who scored 7 points. Jade Nelson was another key contributor, scoring 7 points.
Cheraw can attribute much of their success to My'Shauna Worrell, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 10 rebounds. The contest was Worrell's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaleah Faulkner, who scored 8 points along with 8 rebounds and 7 steals.
Marlboro County's loss dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Cheraw, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 3-0.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Marlboro County will take on South Florence at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Cheraw, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Latta at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Latta focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 35 on Thursday.
