Baseball Game Preview: Central Cobras vs. Port St. Lucie Jaguars

The Central Cobras will face off against the Port St. Lucie Jaguars at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Port St. Lucie took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Central, who comes in off a win.

Central will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Friday, then bounced right back against Dwyer on Monday. Central put the hurt on Dwyer with a sharp 14-6 victory. The Cobras might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matches by eight runs or more this season.

Rupert Blackwood Jr looked comfortable as he struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Evan Schultz, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in RBI. Jakobe Blackwood was another key player, scoring three runs while going 4-for-5.

Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Port St. Lucie was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-2 heartbreaker at the hands of Master's Academy. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Jaguars have suffered since April 23, 2024.

Port St. Lucie's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Central, their win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-5-1.

Central came out on top in a nail-biter against Port St. Lucie in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, sneaking past 7-6. Will Central repeat their success, or does Port St. Lucie have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
