West Shore recap Oct. 30, 2012
Avon extended the longest winning streak in West Shore this week by beating North Ridgeville, 41-7. The victory was the ninth in a row for the team.
Elyria Catholic made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 4,738 from 4,987. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 21-0 victory over Lakewood last week.
Midview's dynamic duo of Cody Callaway and Eric Lauer proved tough for Bay to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Callaway threw for 159 yards and one touchdown and Lauer had 88 yards receiving. Jack Duffner helped Midview's passing attack out by catching four balls for 32 yards.
Martin Finnegan was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 16 carries, he ran for 118 yards as Rocky River topped the Rockets. Teammate Bob Osborn added to the ground attack by rushing for 84 yards.
Midview's Callaway and Lauer have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Callaway has thrown for 1892 yards this season, while Lauer, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 40 catches for 868 yards. The Pirates' Finnegan leads the league in rushing yards with 1049.
Bill Albright's team's Callaway is within 108 passing yards of surpassing 2,000 on the season coming into this week's game against Central Catholic.
