The Freeport Bulldogs were the 55-51 winner over the Paxton Bobcats when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Freeport took a 58-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of Paxton on Thursday. Freeport found out winning isn't easy when you make nine fewer threes than your opponent.
Freeport's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Jasmine Miles, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and ten rebounds, and Sienna Fisher who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. That was a full 51% of Freeport's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Emily Ward went supernova for Paxton, going 9 for 10 from beyond the arc en route to 35 points and 1 assist. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Ward has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Marley McClelland, who scored eight points along with two steals.
Freeport has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-10 record this season. As for Paxton, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 17-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Freeport will face off against Paxton at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Paxton, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Geneva County at 5:30 p.m. on January 26th. Geneva County will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in their respective state's rankings (they are ranked 322nd in Alabama, while Paxton is ranked 134th in Florida).
