Softball Recap: Cary-Grove Comes Up Short

Cary-Grove was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 16-9 to the McHenry Warriors. On the bright side, the nine- run effort marked the Trojans' highest-scoring matchup to date.

Aubrey Longergan and Addison DeSomer did some serious damage despite the final result: Longergan scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-5, while DeSomer scored two runs while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Grace Kaiser, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Cary-Grove's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for McHenry, they moved to 3-5 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak.

Coming up, Cary-Grove will face off against Wauconda at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Bulldogs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.92 runs per game on average), something the Trojans will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for McHenry, they are taking a road trip to challenge Hampshire at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
