Evangel Christian Academy has gone a perfect 3-0 against Kiowa recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Eagles are taking a road trip to challenge the Indians at 2:00 p.m. Evangel Christian Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.
While Evangel Christian Academy's victory against Calhan wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Eagles had just enough and edged out the Bulldogs 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Eagles have posted since April 4, 2024.
Anderson Schultz made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
In other batting news, Luke Willen and Zachary Blair did most of the damage at the plate: Willen scored a run while going 1-for-3, while Blair scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. What's more, Blair posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in March of 2024.
Meanwhile, Kiowa lost 19-3 to Rocky Ford on Wednesday. The Indians have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Myles Erker was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and one stolen base. Thade Montgemery was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Evangel Christian Academy's victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games. As for Kiowa, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5.
Saturday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Evangel Christian Academy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .491. However, it's not like Kiowa struggles in that department as they've averaged .432. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Evangel Christian Academy took their victory against Kiowa when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 18-6 score. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Indians turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
