The Cumberland Pirates will head out on the road to face off against the Unity Christian Lions at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for Cumberland and 23 for Unity Christian.
Cumberland lost a heartbreaker when they last took the court, but unfortunately for them the defeat they were handed on on Tuesday was a bit more commanding. They suffered a rough 52-31 loss at the hands of Sullivan.
Despite the loss, Cumberland saw an underclassman step up: Zack Harmon scored eight points along with six rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Cameron Roedl, who scored six points.
Cumberland struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. They are winless (0-3) when they can't control their own glass like that.
Meanwhile, Unity Christian had to suffer through a rough 96-37 loss at the hands of Arcola. While losing is never fun, Unity Christian can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 754th, while Arcola is ranked 317th).
Cumberland's loss dropped their record down to 9-18. As for Unity Christian, they dropped their record down to 1-23 with that defeat, which was their 13th straight on the road.
Everything came up roses for Cumberland against Unity Christian when the teams last played back in January as the team secured a 61-21 win. With Cumberland ahead 33-9 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
