Basketball Recap: Francis Parker Takes a Loss

If Francis Parker was feeling good fresh off their 89-47 takedown of Maranatha Christian on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The game between the Francis Parker Lancers and the Montgomery Aztecs didn't end well, with the Francis Parker Lancers falling 71-56. The Lancers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Aztecs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2019.

Despite the loss, Francis Parker still got an impressive performance from Tavid Johnson, who went 9 for 17 en route to 23 points and five rebounds. Johnson's evening made it 31 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Kai Jones was another key player, putting up eight points and three steals.

Montgomery's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was JJ Sanchez, who went 8 of 12 on his way to 24 points and three steals. Another player making a difference was Devin Hamilton, who went 6 for 8 en route to 13 points and six boards.

Francis Parker has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-10 record this season. As for Montgomery, their win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-2.

Francis Parker and Montgomery should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. Francis Parker (ranked 125th) will meet Bishop's (ranked 280th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Francis Parker is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 67.4 points per game this season. Meanwhile, Montgomery will take on Victory Christian Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Friday up 204 places (12 vs. 216).
