Peyton Bond made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring five runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in five of his six plate appearances. Central Christian is undefeated when Bond posts two or more stolen bases, but 1-6 otherwise.
In other batting news, Beckett Simpson was incredible, going 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, six RBI, and three runs. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. Another player making a difference was Wil Chandler, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.
Central Christian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 23 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 12.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Trinitas Christian, who bounced back after a loss on the road two weeks ago. Everything went their way against Gulf Pointe Latin on Thursday as they made off with a 20-3 victory. Considering Trinitas Christian's hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Chase Petersen was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. Petersen was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those RBI marked the first that he brought in this season.
In other batting news, Trinitas Christian let Jonathan Rook and Landon Varela run wild. Rook went 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one double, while Varela scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. That double was Rook's first of the season. Jon A Sampson was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
Trinitas Christian's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Central Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 4-6.
Trinitas Christian's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Central Christian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Trinitas Christian, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.8 strikeouts. Will Central Christian keep running through batters, or will Trinitas Christian buck the trend?
Central Christian took their win against Trinitas Christian in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 17-0 score. Do the Saints have another victory up their sleeve, or will Trinitas Christian turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
