The Burlington Township Falcons waltzed into their game on Monday with six straight wins but they left with seven. They strolled past Doane Academy with points to spare, taking the game 64-48. Given Burlington Township's advantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey basketball rankings (they are ranked 105th, while Doane Academy is ranked 341st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Burlington Township found their leader in underclassman Quayd Hendryx, who scored 12 points along with eight assists. That's the first time this season that Hendryx posted eight or more assists. Aaron Ferguson was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Despite the loss, Doane Academy still got an impressive performance from Nick Fusco, who scored 29 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Hiatt Smith, who scored nine points along with five rebounds.
Burlington Township's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-4. As for Doane Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Burlington Township will take on Northern Burlington at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Doane Academy, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Pennsauken at 5:30 p.m. on January 26th.
