The Perry Pumas will square off against the Saguaro Sabercats at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a four-game winning streak alive.
While Perry didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against Williams Field by a score of 5-1 on Monday.
Williams Field's batters probably weren't too happy with Julianna Nava, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 19 Ks (she gave up a single walk). The dominant performance also gave Nava a new career-low in hits (zero).
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Maycie Boblitt, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brynlee Brassfield, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Saguaro won against Cholla on Monday with 17 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. Saguaro won by a run and slipped past Crismon 17-16. Saguaro's win was all the more impressive since the Rattlers were averaging only 3.86 runs allowed on the season.
Hailey Holliday was incredible, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Sophia Chiouinard was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-5.
Saguaro was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .316 or higher in seven consecutive games.
Saguaro pushed their record up to 5-6 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 9.3 runs. As for Perry, their win bumped their record up to 8-4.
Thursday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Perry has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .494. However, it's not like Saguaro struggles in that department as they've averaged .507. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
