Donna North is 0-3 against Veterans Memorial since October of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Donna North Chiefs will head out on the road to face off against the Veterans Memorial Chargers at 7:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Donna North can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They secured a 49-44 W over Lopez.
Donna North can attribute much of their success to Prince Johnson, who gained 169 total yards and three touchdowns, and Marc Ibarra, who rushed for 215 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 7.7 yards per carry. Christian Guerrero did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 80 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, Veterans Memorial had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They breezed by Pace on the road to the tune of 60-0. Veterans Memorial pushed the score to 53-0 by the end of the third, a deficit Pace had no chance of recovering from.
Michael Montoya was the offensive standout of the matchup as he threw for 133 yards and two touchdowns while completing 100% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Gilbert Trillo was another key contributor, gaining 45 total yards and three touchdowns.
Their wins bumped Donna North to 4-3 and Veterans Memorial to 5-2.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's game: Donna North has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 221 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Veterans Memorial struggles in that department as they've been even better at 294.7 per game. It's looking like Friday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Donna North was taken down by Veterans Memorial 53-3 in their previous meeting back in October of 2022. Thankfully for Donna North, Reece Sampayo (who threw for 193 yards and four touchdowns while completing 81.3% of his passes, and also punched in two touchdowns on the ground) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
