The Lewis County Lions will face off against the Estill County Engineers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Lewis County will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Thursday, then bounced right back against Bracken County on Wednesday. The Lions blew past the Polar Bears 16-4. The Lions haven't had any issues with the Polar Bears recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
Meanwhile, while Estill County put up some runs on Wednesday, the same can't be said for Model. The Engineers put the hurt on the Patriots with a sharp 10-0 win. Considering the Engineers have won eight games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Logan Friend made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Bryce Drake was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Hayden Woolery was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Estill County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .613. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Model only posted an OBP of .176.
Estill County pushed their record up to 15-10 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Lewis County, their victory bumped their record up to 6-20.
Lewis County couldn't quite get it done against Estill County when the teams last played back in April as they fell 5-2. Will the Lions have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
