It was a good run, but The Cheshire Academy Cats unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of Salisbury School by a score of 31-28. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Cheshire Academy came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut football rankings (they are ranked first, while Salisbury School is ranked 30th).
When it comes to explaining why Cheshire Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Dante Reno. Despite the final result, he threw for 306 yards and four touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Elijah Newby, who picked up 96 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Cheshire Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 5-1. As for Salisbury School, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Cheshire Academy will head out on the road to face off against Taft School at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Taft School comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 12 points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for Salisbury School, they will be playing at home against Deerfield Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Deerfield Academy is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road.
